The 2nd Annual “Ski For Youth” Fundraiser is a good old fashioned downhill race and afterparty for an excellent cause at Cranmore. Come show support and in the Shawn Smith benefit. February 26th, Boardwalk Skateshop in Woburn, Ma is throwing a FREE video premier for Shape Deuce. Doors open at 8pm, video starts at 9pm. If it’s free it’s for me.

The Top Athletes in Nevada will throw down at the Monster Energy presents the Powder and Sun $3500 Triple Air contest – February 27th at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. Darkside Parks will play host to the event and will maintain 3 of the biggest jumps the resort has yet to see this season. Ski Vegas has been taken many strides to improve the overall resort experience and it is really starting to pay-off. They have been holding some really great events, a dedicated park staff, and a really fun, positive atmosphere.

Crotched Mountain throws down at this years Wall Ride Comp! February 19th at noon, get ready for a show. Open to all skiers and riders, there’s gonna be a product toss, live music, bar promos and best of all – CASH! Crotched Mountains wall is sick and this comp is always a good one, $500 makes it that much better. Usually at least 3 or 4 people go over the other side… Chea!

Saturday February 19th get out to Cranmore for an awesome event for an awesome cause, “Shredding for D.C.T.” Local shredder, Danny Toumarkine, suffered a traumatic brain injury while riding at Teton Pass Resort in Montana. In his honor Cranmore will host a slope style contest held to promote helmet awareness. This contest is going to be a ton of fun! Since Danny is on his way home it is likely that he will be at the event. Hopefully we might even be able to get him to judge. Tell everyone!

While most were saving their seat on the couch for the big game Ski Vegas held a big game of other sorts, the first stop of the “Thuggin on a Box Fundraiser rail jam tour sponsored by Tyrant Snowboards, S4 Optics, Ballers Choice, Vulgar Villains, Civilian Clothing, Gnarcore.com, Monster Energy, Axtion Magazine, Steez Mini-mag, Snowrev.com, Nothings Changed Clothing, Kalvery Apparel and Thug Krew Snowboarding. Over 25 riders registered for the event and all proceeds of the event were donated to the leukemia & lymphoma society, in honor of Gary Basset who passed away 2 years ago fighting cancer. Gary would allow so-cal area snowboarders and skateboarders to throw snow and skate events on his property when other venues refused. DJ Pryme Tyme kept the crowd bumpin to some classic hip-hop and reggae during the qualifying rounds. Event hosts “Dirty D” and the Legendary John Henry called the tricks, repped the sponsors and provided ample humor during the event. After a quick tally by judges the finalists were announced, DJ Crime turned the volume back up and the competitors started bouncing to some bangin dubstep tracks while throwing down the filthiest snowboard maneuvers of the day.

This Friday February 11th is the 3rd Annual Downtown Showdown in Monument Square, Portland, ME. Thousands turn out to watch 32 of the top invited skiers and riders from all over New England compete for bragging rights and plenty of dough, on the custom built urban features. The competition kicks off at 5:30 and make sure you get there early if you want a good spot to watch from. Tip: go to the 2nd and 3rd floor of the parking garage for a great view. Always a sick event. Go to the site for footy from last years.

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited we are for this years Mountains of Steez Day at Granite Gorge! We’re pullin’ out all the stops for this years event. In case you don’t know what Mountains of Steez Day is, I’ll explain in three simple steps. First, print out the above flyer on crappy computer paper. Second, bring that paper and a friend to Granite Gorge this Saturday to get a 2-for-1 lift ticket for the entire day. Lastly, get crazy, party, ride, compete, drink, eat, hang out, have a blast all freakin day! This year is gonna be sick. We’ll have 2 huge party tents on site this year with over a dozen mountainside vendors. In the tents will be live music all day including Flyrock Records bands, The If In Life and Rio Bravo and others. On top of that we’ll have a full bar, including an exclusive Steez Shot, and NARRAGANSETT will be the official beer sponsor of this years Mountains of Steez Day! Look for some Gansett promos and goodies all day. We’re gonna host multiple park comps and give away and boatload of shwag. Who else is doing 2-for1 tix during primetime these days!?!? Come out and party with us.

Get ready for the 3rd annual Spring Splash Big Air competition at Amesbury Sports Park on Saturday March 5th. Flyrock Records will host a banger as usual with tons of prizes and 17 live bands performing throughout the day. There’ll be free tubing, a live broadcast from WXGR, models, live music and tons of giveaways. Mark your calendars now.

GRUNGESTOCK is a throwback to the early 90′s! We’ll have vendors, music, and a bonfire on the mountain under the lights. At 7pm we’ll kick off the slopestyle comp on our 90′s inspired features. Remember to wear your flannels and ripped blue jeans. Live music in the main lodge afterwards with Flyrock Records performances by Rio Bravo and The If in Life. Come party on the mountain with us like it was 1995 again. Discounted PARK ONLY tickets can be purchased for just $15!!

The on-snow demo portion of SIA kicked off Monday at Winter Park Resort. Basically almost anything could be demoed from the majority of the brands that participated in the show. Everything from goggles, helmets and video cameras, to boots, boards and bindings are free game from any company throughout the entirety of the 2-day event. It’s a good chance to beat the hell out of the stuff you’ve been looking at for the past 4 days. There wasn’t a ton of fresh snow, but it came down pretty hard while we were there. You can’t complain about a free day of riding in Colorado! That’ll conclude our SIA coverage as we’re headed back to the east in the morning, provided the weather doesn’t change our plans again. No complaints about the snow back home either – keep it comin!
