Internview #7 – Katherine Langlands

What Exactly is it that you do?
After I drink some coffee and have a toast with peanut butter and sprinkled sea salt I put on my first layer and my snowboard pants and drive to Darkside. There are a couple of other things that happen between coffee and leaving the house but I am not going to list them here. Once I get to Darkside, I realize I forgot my snowboard socks at home so I get a new pair of socks. I put on my boots and ask one of the guys to help me change my stance on my snowboard, so we do that for the next 30 minutes and then I put on the rest of my gear but realize I lost one mitten. If I didn’t have to choose a lip balm on the way to the wall of mitts I’d get to the lift on time where my buds have waited for me and head for the Stash where I know I’ll meet up with so many cool associates. A couple of hours of fierce big air and extreme chilling leaves me wishing for the pleather couch at Darkside. A cool associate asks if I want to party tonight so I say, “Sure.” DS is humming with our peeps so I wait on a rider looking at jackets. She chooses a puffy in a color that will match the pants I’m wearing cuz she wants to wear rad pants just like mine. When I bring her purchases up to the counter she asks if I want to ride tomorrow. “Sure”, I say.
After that I sit on the couch and eat a piece of pizza while I update the Darkside facebook. A rider from PA is trying on boots and I suggest he check out darksidesnowboards.com if he remembers something else he wants when he’s back in PA. Since his girlfriend is just hangin I ask her if she wants to see the indoor DS bungee riding video I just posted on the DS facebook.
A rider buying a new board asks me if the Darkside die-cuts are waterproof. I tell him they’re not Gore-Tex but they’ll stay on.
“Do I get a free die-cut with the board?” “Sure,” I say.
A grom asks if he can buy the pot leaf die-cut before his mom comes up to the counter. “Sure,” I answer.
Since some of my job description at Darkside is artistic applications I attach a glittery banner from one of our vendors to an artistic mobile I’ve been growing all season. Sounds simple, but I had to ask Will to get the big ladder out for me and then climb up holding fish line, scissors as well as the banner. “Want me to hand you this goggle-popup-poster thing too?” he asks. “Sure,” I say. “Why the hell do you still have your snowboard boots on?” he says. “I’ve been too busy to take them off,” I say.

What is your favorite part of your job?
The people, definitely the people- especially the people who I work with at Darkside. They are all fun to be around. Snowboarders are always up to something interesting, creative and cool. I also really like snowboarding.

If you could go or ride anywhere in the world where would it be?
Anywhere with pow, a cabin and a hot tub.
On a lighter note, whats one thing you can’t live without?
I could not live without clean H20. I couldn’t live without my family and friends either, and a puffy jacket would be nice too.

Who’s your favorite super hero? If you could have any power in the world what would it be?
Well, I’d like be able to fly and I really like Dora the Explorer.
And last but not least, whats the last thing you ate today? Was it good?
Pesto pasta – it’s my favorite and it was delicious.
