Internview #6 – Beau Lambert

What Exactly is it that you do?
I am the General Manager of Rye Airfield which means I get to do everything from clean toilets to shout tricks for kids to do on demand. There is never a normal day, today I built a gate to make it easier for us to get mop buckets to the vert ramp, repaired a couple boxes, laughed at Ben’s funny story and tried not to look at the sparks when he was welding BUT IT’S SO HARD! Then we built a railing and closed in a ramp that was a little too open. The real work started after that, calls to the insurance company, planning for ramp camp, some quick editing on flyers Ryan did then pack it all in for a quick ride home and a 3 hour meeting with my local park & rec department, about a 15 hour day, but it’s so fun.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Working with people of all ages and walks. It’s pretty rad when you can talk with a 7 year old about school and skating then turn around and talk to their parent about hitting the slopes.
If you could go or ride anywhere in the world where would it be?
I’d love to snowboard out of Baldface Lodge, look it up, my bud just got back and already put a deposit down for next year.

On a lighter note, whats one thing you can’t live without?
My wife & kids, ok that’s 4 things, but they are all that matters. Then it’s M&M’s

Who’s your favorite super hero? If you could have any power in the world what would it be?
Iron Man thanks to Robert Downey Jr. It would be sweet to fly.

And last but not least, whats the last thing you ate today? Was it good?
A granny smith apple and it was the first good one I have eaten in a while so they must be coming into season somewhere. Last month they were complete crap.

Thuggin On A Box Closer Jam

The 2011 Thuggin on a Box tour came to an end this past weekend in South Lake Tahoe, people from all over the west coast cruised out to the final stop and watched as over 16 riders throw down in a jam style format that included 2 qualifier heats and a final. This stop was dedicated to Lake Tahoe snowboarder and philanthropist Scott Serchen from South Lake Tahoe who passed away last year from cancer. Scott was a great snowboarder that raise lots of money for non-profit organization through his company HIVE Projects. The item9 Skateboard team was on hand premiering their latest threads and skate vids while causing ample ruckus and mingling with the crowd. The great staff at Brothers kept the bomb food going and cheap beers flowing as the crowd cheered on their favorite riders while grooving the beats by DJ AZ Redsmoke. In the end in came down to 8 riders 6 guys and 2 girls in the final. For the Men it was a battle to the end with all the competitors landing sick manuvers. Big Props to Nathan Owen, who not only helped set-up the event, but also through down the best trick of the night with a 450 nosepress 270 down the box. What’s even more impressive is he did it while still recovering from a gnarly crash that left him with plates and screws in face only 2 weeks ago!! As the competition was coming to a close the cops showed up and made sure it was time to turn off the outside DJ and move the party inside, AZ blasted “Bad Boys” and then turned it down Half Volume while the winners were announced. Scott Hoffman took first place overall by clearly destroying every feature on the course including a roof drop and handcap rail jib. Alec Sellars took 2nd with his 360 blunt stalls on the fence post and overall clean style. Rounding out the top 3 was Jeremiah Hoffman (no relation) with a smooth and consistent style and a variety of tricks. For the ladies, Diana Spencer and Natasha went head to head for the title but it was Diana who pulled it out on the last run landing the 50/50 180 out on the rail, after clearly destroying the flat down box. Natasha showed smooth technique and lots of spins but just came up a lil short. Jaron took home best skier with a sick mix-up of tricks on both features.
BEST TRICK – NATE OWEN – 450 Nosepress 270 out
MENS – SCOTT HOFFMAN, ALEC SELLARS, JEREMIAH HOFFMAN
WOMENS – DIANA SPENCER
SKIER – JARRON
