Andy Kessler Day at House of Vans

Clear the date now and get to Brooklyn on Saturday August 6th for Andy Kessler Day. This place is mad fun! There’s an indoor bowl and outdoor street park, multiple bars and an awesome stage. All of that will be filled I’m sure. Natur, Dirty Fences, Triple Hex and Jumpship will play throughout the day (5-10pm). The Girls of Karen Black will be there and best of all, your $5 donation goes straight to the Andy Kessler Foundation! Get there.

Internview #13 – Preston Strout

What exactly is it that you do?
I’m in the business of making fun, making business fun, and making fun of business. I’m part owner and Executive Director of High Cascade Snowboard Camp, and I’m also starting a brand called Crab Grab, plus, during the winter, I do a bunch of announcing too (apparently I have a good voice for saying “double cork” all f—ing day long). Underneath those three umbrellas is a ball beating of emailing, phone calling, decision making, and faxing.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Working with our staff of 135 amazing people at HCSC, hands down.

If you could go or ride anywhere in the world where would it be?
Loon Mtn, NH.

On a lighter note, what’s one thing you can’t live without?
Haven’t figured that out yet. If I turn up dead somewhere, go see what I didn’t have on me.

Who’s your favorite super hero? If you could have any power in the world what would it be?
Ahhh, whoever’s fighting the good fight. I’m not that hyped on most super heros. Batman seems kinda like a prick, I’m afraid of spiders (and thus the man). Superman’s outfit looks ridiculous, and the Green Lantern seems like a poor excuse for a summer blockbuster. My power would be the ability to make onions to disappear from my food (or Earth as a whole).

And last but not least, what’s the last thing you ate today? Was it good?
It was biscuits and gravy cooked and served by the HCSC Kitchen Staff – it was f—ing awesome!

Droppin in with Chas/Off to New Zealand

Hey Everyone!
Hope all of you out in internet land have had a great summer! My summer is over as I am headed back into winter tomorrow when I travel all the way down to NZ. While home on my two week break I have been keeping busy, between dozens of emails and planning sessions I got to travel down to Brooklyn with my sister to visit one of our good friends Hannah Sherman. We spent four days staying up till 7A.M., exploring, waking up on rooftops, buying from street vendors and other random mischief. Good times. Unfortunately, photos were not my top priority and the ones I did get are off my phone and rather blurry. ):

So I leave tomorrow and can’t wait to be back on snow! New Zealand is awesome and always a highlight of the year. I will be down there for 40 days doing two events, the New Zealand Open and the FIS World Cup, make sure to check back as I will post results. For now check out the latest episode of “Droppin in With Chas”, Chas Guldemond is a fellow East Coaster and has been a great mentor to me this year so I am honored to have a couple shots in his webisode along with Flanagan, Reid, and Mikkel Bang.
Enjoy!

Experiences Like Snowflakes – Benji Farrow

As a competitive snowboarder I spend almost 100% of my time on snow, and that got me thinking. Just like a snowflake every experience is unique and special but they all accumulate to create a something beautiful. This year has been made up of many experiences, each different and new but all awesome and together they shaped my season and my life!! So here are some of the best memories from this past year spent chasing snowflakes!

MAMMOTH SPRING RIDING!!
What sounds better than 65 degrees, tons on soft snow, perfect jumps/pipe and great friends? Not much! And if you can think of something better email me and let me know! Every year I come and spend two weeks in Mammoth to take advantage of the late season shred. This year, I left my home in Ludlow, VT on May 27th and headed to Mammoth to meet with the rest of the US Snowboard Team for a couple weeks of on-snow training. Mammoth received a ton of snow this year and it was awesome that they kept their Main Park open so late. With the soft snow and sunny days as well as one of my mentors, Chas Gouldemond, riding with me, I was able to work on a bunch of new tricks and even put some on lock down!!

Towards the end of my time in Mammoth I met up with my agent and did a afternoon of filming, for the limited time we had I was very happy with the shots we got. Check the quick edit we threw together here! I also got to film some with Chas for his webisode “Dropping In with Chas”. I will post that as well once it is released.
