Amesbury Spring Splash Recap

Last Saturday night kicked off the 3rd Annual Amesbury Spring Splash at Amesbury Sports Park in Mass. The event featured live music all day and night from Flyrock Records’ 17 different artists. The highlight was the big air comp under the lights. Skiers and boarders took advantage of the spring-like conditions to throw down pretty hard. We saw lots of front flips, back flips, corks, 7′s and rodeos. Not bad for the super sticky snow. The skiers were all pretty sick which made judging extremely hard. We apologize for not having your names, just your jacket colors…. There was a $1,000 cash up for grabs and it was split between the two groups. At the end of the day Steve from the Sunapee region took home first, Jonny D took second, and Justin Healey third. Props to everyone who came out. The bands played straight into the night and kept the bar busy. Good beer, food, friends, music, snowboarding – Good night!

If In Life on the deck.

Practice.

Branding, anyone?

Waitin’ to drop.

Big grab under the cat lights.

Steve as usual…

Justin Healey was on his game all night.

7th Annual Downtown Throwdown Recap

The seventh annual Downtown Throwdown rocked Keene, NH on Saturday, March 5th with the biggest railjam yet. Held beside the skate park, Downtown Throwdown brought out over 40 riders and skiers to session the sick set up: down-flat-down, down box, 2 corrugated pipes and a walker ledge to drop over a set of lime green Downtown Throwdown lockers, constructed by the Granite Gorge Terrain Park crew. Beneath overcast skies and temps in the 40’s, skiers and riders competed in both grom and 16 + categories in front of judges Aaron Hyer, Nick Marsland, and Ted McGreer, owner of Ted’s Shoe and Sport in Keene, NH. Dave Morin was emcee on the mic all day, shouting out to all of the sponsors! When Dave was asked about the event he said “It was by far the biggest event he’s ever done for Granite Gorge.” Forty five minutes of shredding features later, the judges narrowed it down to five skiers and riders, respectively, as well as 6 groms. After a tough elimination round and some gnarly tricks in the finals, the winners were revealed:

Snowboarders:
1. Matt Schaffer
2. Steven Lauder
3. Cody Delano

Skiers:
1. Taylor McIntosh
2. Ryan Anderson
3. Keenan Hawkins

Schaffer took home a custom-made, bamboo, 7th annual Downtown Throwdown Bean board and McIntosh received a set of K2 skis donated by Norm’s Ski and Bike. Tanner Bearson placed first for the groms, Dan Jones won Best Trick, and Liz Elia snagged first in the women’s “108″ division. We asked the riders how they felt about the railjam this year, and Cody Delano said it best, “It’s pretty sweet.” Mad props to all the skiers and riders who came out to shred, all the sponsors and spectators who came to toss out swag and support the event, and the Granite Gorge Terrain Park crew for holding it down; we had a blast. We are definitely stoked on an even bigger event next year!

On-Snow Demo at Loon

Tuesday and Wednesday are the annual On-Snow Demo days for the New England Region at Loon Mountain, NH for the first time. Previously the demos were held at Stratton Mountain in Vermont. Basically it’s the time for shop rats, marketing folks, local pros and industry heads alike to congregate on mountain for a couple days of fun. The event isn’t open to the public but it’s pretty lax and you’re more than welcome to peruse some of the new product on the DL. Shop workers are encouraged to demo as much of next years product as they’d like, whether it be boards or bindings, to helmets, goggles and boots. Try one, try all. The parks were nicely done and with bluebird skies, it made for a great day of riding too. Loon had more in store once demoing wrapped up. The Hard Days Night Wall Ride comp kicked off at 5pm and there wasn’t a shortage of talent to throw down on the new setup. Shaun Murphy consistently went big and took the top spot for the night. Mad style kid! Of course there were plenty of apres and afterparty’s in store for the night. It wouldn’t be a snow event without partying, would it? All in all, a pretty sick day if you were lucky enough to hit the mountain.

Pick one…

Turnin’ screws.

ThirtyTwo Loon Mountain collab boot = hot!

New Dragon goggles.

Rome’s new board lineup.
